This post shares 3 easy ways to customize a builder grade home!
Hallelujah! It’s Friday y’all!! This week was actually a great week, but I am always extra happy when the weekend is here!
Today I am going to be sharing with you How To Customize Your Home In Three Simple Ways.
We did all three updates without a month of moving into our house. They are simple and super effective in making your house feel more like a home!
All three of these changes can be made in new build homes or older homes as well!

Changing Out the Light Fixtures
Number one is changing out the builder grade (or old) light fixtures.
I bought a new build, cookie cutter home, so all of the light fixtures were the same as every other house in our neighborhood.
However, even if you buy an older house, changing out the light fixtures can still make your home much more custom to your style and taste! This is literally the first thing we did when we moved into our house.

We quickly changed out the builder grade pendant lights over our island, and bought some that fit our style better! They were inexpensive too! Only around $100 each! Not a bad price to change the look of your kitchen (this is a similar option to the lighting I have).
We also changed out the builder grade bathroom lighting in our powder room and plan to change out the rest of the bathrooms this year!

Paint Doors and Walls
The second thing we did was start painting!
I painted the inside of our front door and pantry door black within a month of moving in. It honestly makes the house feel so custom when the doors are painted a color other than white!
Plus, painting a door is super cheap (I usually just buy the sample of paint and it is enough). It also is a project that takes under an hour to finish! Below you will see what a big difference a painted door can make in a room.

We also started painting the walls within that first month of moving in!
We never hire painters because its a project that I know we can do. However, it does take a lot of time if you are painting your whole house. So hiring out isn’t a bad idea. We only did one room at a time so it hasn’t been too overwhelming.
Just changing the color on the walls can make a room feel so warm and cozy! When we moved in we had stark white walls. You know the kind that make you blind if you look at them for too long?! That kind! Haha! Not a good white (I love a good white wall, my favorite white is Alabaster from Sherwin Williams).
Once we painted the majority of our house Repose Gray from Sherwin Williams it changed the feel of our house, it finally felt like a home. Paint is so underrated!

Changing Out the Bathroom Mirrors
This is one I am still in the process of doing!
The mirrors that come in most homes are rectangle and plain. It’s amazing to see how much a bathroom can change by just changing out the mirror!
The only mirror we have changed out so far is in our powder room bathroom that is on our main floor and the one all of our guests use. We replaced the builder grade mirror with a large round gold mirror (this one from Target).
It really just pulls the bathroom together and makes it look finished and custom. I plan on redoing our master bathroom here soon and that will be the first change we make!
This project is for anyone! As long as you have a screwdriver (or have a neighbor who has one) then you’re good to go!

I love finding simple ways to update and customize my home.
I hope this helped you realize that even people who are not handy at all, can make little changes that can make a big difference in your home!
On another note, did y’all read Rachel’s blog post from Wednesday about her Macrame Plant Hangers? They turned out so cute, and now I am itching to make my own! You guys know how much I love plants!!
Have a great weekend!
