What is the Figgy Play Couch?
If you have kids and you haven’t heard of a “play couch” you’re missing out! Also known as a Montessori or Modular Play Couch, they are basically play-kits that include cushions of different sizes, encouraging kids to create, build, explore and imagine whatever they want to come up with!
The “Figgy” modular play couch was developed by two parents, and is a versatile fort-building kit that sparks imagination and encourages kid-led play! The Figgy play couch set includes 4 square base cushions, and 2 rectangles, with an option to add on a wedge and separate waterproof liners. Figgy Play Couch Review
We bought our first play couch from Figgy about a year ago; it was a birthday present for my soon to be 7 year old son! I had actually been debating purchasing one for years and just wasn’t sure if the investment would be worth it or if my kids would use it enough. But now that we have had it for a year I can honestly say that I wish I purchased a play couch years ago!!
We loved it so much that we now own 3 modular play couch sets (technically one for each kid, but they all share) and the kids use them allllllll the time!
Main Reasons I Decided to Purchase a Figgy Play Couch
To Build Forts:
My boys are obsessed with building forts all over the house. Before we had the Figgy play couch, they used to use our Living Room couch cushions, throw pillows, pillows and blankets from our bed…you name it! I love when they play together and use their imaginations, but I was getting so frustrated seeing the couch cushions on the floor all the time. Now that we have the Figgy sets they are oly allowed to use those cushions to build their forts and there are no issues! Plus the Figgy cushions work so much better than the couch cushions ever did!
Playroom Climbing Wall Floor Cushions:
We recently gave our Basement Playroom a big makeover and we added a Climbing Wall for the kids! They are able to climb up the wall using climbing grips and there are also monkey bars going up one wall and running across the ceiling. We definitely needed good quality foam cushions to place on the floor underneath the climbing wall and monkey bars for safety while the kids climb, and the large square Figgy cushions have worked perfectly! I love that we can use the velrco to attach the cushions together to form one long mat. I also love that the mats serve multiple purposes, so when they are not climbing they can use the cushions somewhere else.
Screen Free Fun:
Having 3, very active, boys, I’m always looking for ways to keep them entertained while limiting screen time. Their moods and behaviors greatly benefit when they are able to be active and get some energy out, and these cushions allow them to tumble and jump and roll around safely. I’m always so impressed watching what they come up with to build – from big tall castles and forts to play believe in, to cozy forts and caves to hide in, to parkour obstacle courses…they are always coming up with new and imaginative ways to use their play couches!
Autism Family Approved:
My oldest son is autistic and loves creating cozy little nooks to hide away and have some quiet time in. The Figgy play cushions have been the perfect tools for him to use to create his cozy corners. A big plus is that the cushions are strong enough to handle the weight of blankets so he can drape them on top to create a dark hide-out.
Overall Aesthetic:
I try to keep the play couch cushions in the Playroom, but they do inevitably end up all over the house sometimes, so I wanted something that looks nice while it’s out. I love the fabric and color choices that Figgy has to offer. The colors look especially great in our Playroom, but I also don’t mind them if they’re left out upstairs, haha.
