Sharing our baby boy’s nursery decor, and the top nursery must-haves checklist that all new parents need in 2024!
Our baby boy’s nursery is complete and I am so thrilled with how it turned out! Nursery design is so much fun and one of my favorite rooms to decorate in a home, so I really wanted to make this room special. I also wanted to make the nursery design classic and timeless, and something that he could grow into, meaning nothing too “themed” or geared towards only babies. I’m so happy that we decided to add peel and stick wallpaper to this whole room, and paint the ceiling and trim with a coordinating color. The whole room feels so calming and cozy.
Below I’m sharing more of our Baby Boy Nursery Decor Reveal with all of the details and links for products, as well as my top must-haves for every Nursery that all new parents need in 2024!

Baby Boy Nursery Decor
I had so much fun working on the design for our baby boy, Ashton’s, Nursery! This is a small room so I wasn’t sure if the bold choice of color would be too much, but I really love how it turned out.
The teals, blues, and mint green colors in the Nursery feel calming and serene. I think that Ashton really likes staring at the wallpaper pattern already too because he is always very calm when I lay him down in his crib!
I also love how the colors and patterns in this nursery feel very gender neutral. I have 3 boys, so while I wasn’t able to design my dream girl nursery, I love how this nursery design could go either way. There are so many different colors in the wallpaper, from blues to gold to pink, so you could really pull from any of those for an accent color to work with it, depending on your baby’s gender!
NURSERY MUST-HAVES CHECKLIST
Nursery Must-Haves for Sleeping
1. Crib
There are a ton of cute crib options out there for your baby’s nursery, and while some can be super expensive, there are actually a lot of budget friendly options that look just as good! We’ve boughten a really affordable crib for each of my boy’s nurseries and I don’t regret it at all. I really wanted a vintage looking metal crib for our newest baby boy’s nursery and love this crib from Wayfair! It’s simple and classic, and gender neutral. It comes in a few different finishes too. The gold finish is also so pretty!
2. Crib Mattress
This is my favorite crib mattress, and the one we bought for our nursery, because it is 100% breathable (lowering the risk of SIDS), and also 100% washable! I also love that it is non-toxic. The Newton Mattress comes in a few different options and sizes, and they also offer bassinets and travel cribs/play yards!
3. Crib Sheet and Mattress Pad
I recently got this Modal fitted crib sheet from Solly Baby and it is sooooo soft! I wish I had one for my bed! They have so many cute patterns to choose from, too!
You’ll also want a waterproof crib mattress pad (or two), especially when you start potty training.
4. White Noise Machine
A white noise machine is definitely a must-have for your baby (and really anyone…I can’t sleep without one either!). I love this portable white noise machine! It is small and rechargeable, making it perfect for bringing it in the car or in the stroller, but it also works well enough to be your main white noise machine for the nursery as well! I keep mine in my diaper bag so we always have it when we’re on the go. I also brought it to the hospital in my hospital bag and it was so nice to have there!
I also love this sound machine / night light if you are looking for more of a permanent solution for your nursery. The “time-to-rise” feature is really helpful when you are trying to train your toddler to know when it is ok to come out of their room in the morning. My kids also love being able to pick their own sounds and light color.
5. Black-Out Curtains
If you want your kids to sleep well definitely invest in some good black-out window coverings for their bedrooms! I moved these gold velvet black-out curtains from our Family Room into our Boy’s Nursery (I love “shopping” my home and moving things around) and love how the gold color looks against the blue wallpaper! These are my favorite velvet curtains because they are great quality, come in a ton of colors and sizes, but are much more affordable than similar styles from other retailers!
If you prefer black-out roller shades, I still recommend layering curtains on top as well to block light from coming in at the sides, and to make the room feel extra cozy.
6. Ceiling Fan
You will want a good ceiling fan in your nursery to keep the room feeling comfortable during warm days and nights. Having a fan on in your baby’s room has also been proven to reduce the risk of SIDS by lowering the room temperature and circulating the air. We also needed a ceiling light in this room so chose a fan with a light. I love this 44″ Dublin Fan from Hunter Fans! It is modern and cute, perfect for a smaller room, and comes in a few different colors; perfect for any kid’s room! It’s a great price, easy to install, super quiet even at the highest speed, and the light is dimmable with the remote (perfect for those late night diaper changes).
7. Monitor
We have the Owlet Dream Duo 2 bundle and I love the peace of mind it offers! The Dream Sock monitors baby’s sleep habits, heart rate, and average oxygen levels, and will alert you of any issues. It also learns their sleep patterns to help you know how they are sleeping and when they might be ready for bed.
The video monitor connects to the Owlet app on your phone so you can keep an eye (or ear) on your baby while they sleep. The picture quality is great and it also monitors the room temperature and humidity.
Nursery Must-Haves for Changing
8. Dresser / Changing Table
I prefer to use a dresser as a changing table, instead of having something separate, to save space in the room. I absolutely love this white oak dresser in our baby boy’s room! The brushed finish and moulding details are so pretty and it looks great against the wallpaper! It is also the perfect size for all of his diapers, wipes, clothes, blankets, etc. And it is 36″ tall (which is standard countertop height) making it the perfect height for a changing table.
9. Changing Pad
I’ve used one of these Keekaroo changing pads with all three of my babies and love them so much! They are waterproof and so easy to wipe down and clean and hold up really well (I’m using the one in this nursery for the second time).
10. Diapers and Wipes
We’ve been using Coterie Diapers this time around and I have been so impressed with them! They are so soft and hold so much liquid; I rarely have to change him at night! They are also made out of non-toxic materials and are fragrance free.
I love the Coterie wipes as well. They are a bit of a splurge compared to other wipes, but are large, and nice and thick so you only need to use one or two per changing. I was previously using Water Wipes and definitely prefer the Coterie wipes over those.
Nursery Must-Haves for Feeding
11. Glider Chair / Recliner
I used a hand-me-down glider chair for my first two babies, and it was ok … but wow is my new recliner nice! This swivel reclining glider chair was definitely worth the splurge this time around! I know I will get so much use out of it and now know it is definitely a nursery must-have item worth investing in. I still use a glider chair in my 4 year old’s room to read to him at night. I love the soft stain resistant fabric, the recline feature, and it even has built-in chargers.
12. Side Table
It’s super helpful to have a small side table near your chair to place your phone, water bottle, burp cloths… and this round woven wicker accent table is so cute! The boho style would fit well in any nursery.
13. Floor Lamp
You will also want either a floor lamp or table lamp somewhere in the nursery to use as a reading light or a dim light for night time changings.
14. Nursing Pillow
If you’re breastfeeding it is helpful to keep one of these nursing pillows near the chair to prop your baby up while feeding. It really helps prevent neck and back pain by bringing the baby closer to you instead of hunching over all the time.
There’s a lot that can go into a nursery to make it perfect for your new baby! But remember that you don’t need everything! If you are on a budget stick to the above nursery must-haves and you will have everything you need!
