Today I am finally sharing my favorite project I’ve been a part of so far in my career as an Interior Designer! It is a beautiful Colorado mountain home that is clean and modern but still warm and inviting. I love how this home turned out and feel very proud to have been able to work on it!
We felt so honored to have this project chosen for the cover of the November/December 2019 issue of LUXE Magazine! With this being my first big project as a Senior Designer, I really had no expectation of it ever getting published. So for it to not only be picked up by Luxe, which is one of the top interior design magazines in the country, but to also be on the cover, was incredible!
When Luxe asked us to photograph the home for publication, I was so excited because even though I was no longer working at Associates 3, I was able to come back and be a part of the photoshoot! I love how all of the photos turned out and am so happy that I will always have these to look back on!
This project is so special to me because it was my first project I worked on as the Senior Designer, and I was able to work on it with my co-worker who is also one of my best friends! It was so rewarding to be able to work on this project together, over the course of almost 4 years! I completed this project while I was a designer at the firm I worked at for almost 10 years, Associates 3. This was the last project I worked on there before I decided to leave to stay home with my boys, and it was the best way to end my time there!
During the course of this project, I actually became pregnant and had BOTH of my boys! Isn’t that crazy?! I am so thankful I was able to work on it through both pregnancies, through my maternity leave and through the postpartum phase where there were countless times I had to pump in the car on the way up to see the house for an install or site meeting. I was even able to bring Griffin up to the house with me a few times as well! All of those things combined make me so incredibly proud of this project and how it turned out.
The design of this home is unlike many of the other mountain homes in this area, with it’s contemporary and modern aesthetic, cool colors, and clean lines. But although it is modern, it doesn’t stand out along the landscape or feel out of place. The family wanted a home they could escape to to enjoy nature, with the gorgeous views of the mountains and lake, and a place to share with family and friends for large gatherings.
They wanted the home to work with the landscape, and not distract from it, so we drew inspiration for the materials and colors from the surrounding natural elements – muted and earthy tones with pops of teal blues, reds and oranges to play off of the sunsets that reflect on the lake. The family is active and casual, and wanted the home to feel welcoming to guests, so the furniture and materials used are beautiful and warm but also durable and inviting.
