This post shares outdoor Christmas decor ideas!
One of my favorite things about this time of year is seeing the outdoor Christmas decor that people put out. We’ve made it an annual tradition to drive around and scope out the festive holiday lights and displays in our neighborhood—it’s always so much fun! While Christmas lights are an obvious holiday staple, I find a decked out front porch to be equally as special.
Even if you don’t go in and out of your front door every day, it’s still worth decorating that space for guests to enjoy. I also think it sets the tone before anyone even enters your house.
Luckily, it doesn’t take much to add festivity to a front porch. Some garland, string lights, and a new doormat can do the trick. If you want to go beyond that, paper lanterns and faux Christmas trees can take things up another notch.
To help you make the most of your front porch this season, I’ve put together this list of simple outdoor Christmas decor ideas. Here’s to having the coziest entry on your block!

Swap out your doormat for a seasonal pick.
One really easy upgrade to make is switching out your doormat. There are so many budget-friendly options that hold up well over the years. Target and World Market both have great choices right now, but I really love my Letterfolk doormat.
Rather than sticking to a doormat alone, add more texture to your porch by layering two mats together. Place a patterned outdoor rug underneath a holiday rug to achieve this look—so festive!
Add faux trees to your porch.
Faux trees don’t need to be reserved for the inside of your house. Set one on your porch for an instantly festive feel. I like to place our faux tree inside of a woven basket to give it a more finished look.
Pro tip: Purchase a pre-lit tree if you want to add more light to your entryway.
Hang star or snowflake pendants and lanterns.
I started hanging these pretty snowflake lanterns from our front porch a few years back and have loved incorporating them into my decor each year. It’s a unique but easy way to bring some interest to otherwise unused space. Another option is to grab a snowflake banner (which might be easier to hang).
Go all out with string lights.
The holidays wouldn’t be complete without sparkling string lights. Sure, you line your roof with them, but don’t leave your front porch out of the fun! Place them around your door, along your porch railing, or on the back of a chair.
Don’t want to commit to string lights? Set battery operated pillar candles inside of gold lanterns to achieve a similar glow with less effort.
Keep things traditional with a wreath and some garland.
Shopping for wreaths and garland can feel very overwhelming—there are just so many options! These are the finds I’m eyeing for my front porch this year. All of them look quality and timeless, meaning they’ll serve you for years to come.
Cozy things up with throw blankets and pillows.
If you have a seating area on your front porch, it’s a no-brainer to swap out your regular throw pillows and blankets for something more seasonal. Grab a cup of hot chocolate and cozy up outside with these festive finds.
Add a strand of bells to your door knob.
I love the idea of incorporating bells in my holiday decor. Any of these strands would look so cute hanging on a door knob. There’s also a variety of jingle bell banners you could hang above your doorway if that’s more your thing.
